Call for Subject Matter Experts – 2021

The Chartered Governance Institute of Canada (CGIC) is looking for individuals interested in supporting the delivery of the International Qualifying Program (IQP) as well as speakers for the Directors’ Education & Accreditation Program (DEAP).  Honorariums are provided to these individuals. The CGIC is also looking for individuals to sit on two of its Education, Training and Candidate Success Committee’s subcommittees. Chief Examiners 

We are seeking individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Corporate Governance *
  • Corporate Law *
  • Company Compliance& Administration *
  • Interpreting Financial & Accounting Information (a designation in preferred)
  • Risk Management
  • Development of Strategy
  • Boardroom Dynamics

As an Examiner, you would be tasked with marking a pre-set exam using the marking scheme provided.  You would also be required to deliver six, 1 to 1.5 hour live webinars – five “lessons” plus a Review session. PowerPoints for each webinar have already been created.  

CGIC is looking to appoint its Chief Examiners on one-year terms which would cover two exam periods (June and November).

Individuals who are not selected for a position as a Chief Examiner in one year, are encouraged to consider sitting on one of the Education, Training and Candidate Success Committees as a subject matter expert.

* These Examiners are required to localize/Canadianize a UK based paper and marking scheme. The honorarium for these modules reflects the additional work required.


Directors’ Education & Accreditation Program (DEAP) Speakers

DEAP is a short, intensive, and effective way for you to have a good insight into the role of a Board Director and provide you with knowledge of key areas related to that role. The program provides the tools to help you manage your responsibility to your organization, its stakeholders, and yourself in the best possible way.  Upon successful completion, you will be equipped to meet the demands facing today’s board Directors.

CGIC is seeking interested individuals to add to its rotation of speakers in the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Finance
  • Strategy and Risk Management

The program is delivered over three days with a different speaker for each module. Speakers are provided with PowerPoints and speaking notes for each module which is be delivered to a group which could ranger from five to twenty individuals.

 In the past, the program was delivered in-person session but in 2020, due to COVID, it shifted to virtual through Zoom. CGIC is expecting to deliver eight virtual sessions with the possibility of one or two this session being changed to in-person should travel restrictions be lifted.

Speakers receiving an honorarium and engagements are assigned on a rotational basis based on speaker availability. Should travel be required to deliver a session, travel and accommodation expenses would be covered.

Education, Training and Candidate Success Committee Sub-Committees

CGIC is seeking individuals who would be interested in serving on the Subject Advisory Committee or the Assessment Review Panel which oversee the examination process to ensure that the Division is meeting or exceeding the standard set by the international Professional Standards Committee. This would involve ensuring exams are set at the required rigour and are marked according to the required standards.  The committee requires subject matter experts in the following areas:

  • Corporate Governance
  • Company Law
  • Company Compliance and Administration
  • Interpreting Financial and Accounting Information
  • Risk Management
  • Development of Strategy
  • Boardroom Dynamics

Most of the work would be done via email with the possibility of two face to face meetings being held annually (travel and accommodation expenses would be covered). 

These roles provide members with an opportunity to give back to your professional organization while also earning hours towards your continuing professional development requirement. These individuals can also be added to the Chief Examiner rotation if they wish to be considered.
